Higher Education Funding Taskforce

During the summer of 2010, Governor Chris Gregoire created a Higher Education Funding Task Force to help develop a long-range funding strategy for higher education and to recommend ways to improve accountability and performance in the state’s public four-year higher education instituitions.

The task force consisted of leaders from business, education, agriculture, technology, law, and local government. In January 2011, the task force presented its recommendations to the Governor. 

The recommendations included a new financial plan incorporating sustained state budget support and tuition flexibility for the state’s four-year universities, the creation of a new privately funded endowment for student financial aid, and strengthened higher education accountability measures.
