State Work Study Employer Information

Through State Work Study (SWS), students help employers with their part-time staffing needs, while earning money for college and gaining valuable work experience. The state's two- and four-year colleges and universities, and many private colleges and universities, offer this form of financial aid to eligible Washington residents.

Want to become a State Work Study employer?

We invite you to join nearly 2,000 employers participating in Washington's nationally recognized State Work Study program.

Consider the benefits:

    You can . . .

  • Hire bright employees - college students with the cutting-edge skills your organization needs.
  • Preview talent - you will be able to observe their on-the-job performance and preview some of the top talent in the state.
  • Save money - on wages and on-the-job training and, if you like what you see, save again on future recruitment and hiring costs.

To encourage employers to participate, the state reimburses a percentage of the student's wages.

It's easy to participate, just:

  1. Determine the kind of work you need performed;
  2. Contact a participating college or university near you;
  3. Complete and return two simple forms; and
  4. Following approval, interview student employees and confirm their eligibility.

  Then you're ready to hire, train, and pay your student employee and be reimbursed.
