Washington College Bound ScholarshipOverviewThis four-year scholarship covers the cost of college tuition, fees, and a $500 stipend for books for low-income students who sign a pledge in 7th, 8th, or 9th* grade, promising to graduate from high school and demonstrate good citizenship. The College Bound Scholarship provides hope and incentive for students and families who otherwise might not consider college as an option because of its cost. *9th graders (students who were 8th graders during the 2007-08 school year) have until June 30, 2009 to sign up. This is a one-time exception.
Reason for the ProgramFar too few students from low-income families participate and succeed in postsecondary education in Washington, which ranks 32nd nationally in this category. At the same time, this group represents the most rapidly growing segment of K-12 students. Up to 33 percent of the 2018 high school graduating class will be under-represented students of color or those from low-income families. The College Bound Scholarship aims to rectify this situation. For additional information see: Fact Sheet Program Materials To order program materials free of charge, Some of the program materials are available in other languages.
