Foster Care Endowed Scholarship
Program Administration
The Foster Care Endowed Scholarship was created to help youths who have been in the Washington state foster care system attend college. Funded through an endowment, which will be matched with private donations, the program will use interest earned to award scholarships at Washington colleges and universities.
The endowment program is currently being developed and funded. The Foster Care Endowed Scholarship Advisory Board estimates that the first round of students will receive their awards during the 2008-09 academic year. Student applications are not being accepted at this time.
The Higher Education Coordinating Board is charged with administering the program. The board's duties include:
- Adopting necessary rules and guidelines;
- Administering the foster care endowed scholarship trust fund and the foster care scholarship endowment fund; and
- Establishing and assisting the foster care endowed scholarship advisory board in its duties as described in RCW 28B.116.040
Ways to Contribute
Foster Youth dream of college too. Some dream of being teachers to help children, others hope to become mechanics, chefs, or graphic designers. Others may want to be doctors or nurses and save lives. The dreams are as diverse as the youth themselves, but all share a common requirement: a college education.
